Alberta reaffirms intention to introduce new carbon tax levy

Alberta released its 2016-17 budget on April 14, and reaffirmed the province's intention to implement the Climate Leadership Plan (the Plan), including the introduction of a new carbon tax levy effective January 1, 2017. While the province did not release any carbon tax legislation with its budget, it did confirm that the new Carbon Tax Levy Act would be introduced in the legislature this spring, with regulations setting out exemptions and the remittance process being promulgated later in the year.

A Tax Alert prepared by Ernst & Young Canada, and attached below, provides additional details.
