Canada's Finance Department invites views on proposed tariff elimination on certain agri-food processing inputs

The federal Department of Finance has made an announcement inviting interested parties to submit their views on the proposed Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff elimination on certain agri-food processing inputs. As part of the 2016 federal budget, the government announced its intention to take feedback from the public about eliminating tariffs on some ingredients for food manufacturing, excluding supply managed products (e.g., dairy products). The announcement came about because the Canadian agri-food processing industry is one of the largest manufacturing employers in Canada, and the government would like to foster growth and job creation in this sector.
