Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories budgets for 2016-17 discussed

Saskatchewan Finance Minister Kevin Doherty tabled the province's fiscal 2016-17 budget on June 1. The budget contains no new taxes and no tax increases. The minister anticipates a deficit of $434 million for 2016-17.

Northwest Territories Finance Minister Robert C. McLeod also tabled the territory's fiscal 2016-17 budget on June 1. The budget contains no new taxes and no tax increases. Options for increasing revenues discussed in the Revenue Options paper tabled in March 2016 will be considered for future budgets. The 2016-17 budget proposes operating expenditures of $1.66 billion and forecasts revenues of $1.81 billion. After taking into account infrastructure contributions and supplementary reserve requirements, an operating surplus of $119 million is projected.
