23 June 2016 European Commission adopts proposal to improve EU Blue Card Scheme The EU has adopted a proposal to enhance the Blue Card scheme to improve the EU's ability to attract and retain highly skilled third-country nationals. It is important to note that the United Kingdom, Ireland and Denmark are not taking part in the adoption of this Directive and are not bound by, or subject to, its application. Implementation of the new scheme will only apply once it has been adopted by the European Parliament and Council.
