Australia's post-election protection of immigration program discussed

The month of July routinely heralds important changes to Australian immigration laws, from standard increases to visa application charges to substantial legal amendments. However, this year the caretaker period preceding the July 2 federal election ensured no changes. The federal election outcome delivered a small majority to the government in the House of Representatives. However, the Senate outcome will deliver a heavily weighted cross-bench that will likely see independents and minor parties influence the immigration agenda.
