20 September 2016 European Commission announces new State aid investigation opened The European Commission (the Commission) announced on September 19, that it has opened an in-depth investigation into several tax rulings granted by Luxembourg to the Luxembourg subsidiaries of a French multinational (MNC). The Commission is not calling into question the general Luxembourg tax system or tax rulings in general. Rather, the Commission announced that it will assess whether the Luxembourg authorities provided a selective advantage to the MNC which is not available to other companies subject to the same national taxation rules in Luxembourg.
