Uruguay approved a Treaty to Avoid Double Taxation with the United Kingdom

On October 27, 2016, Uruguay's Parliament enacted Law No. 19,433, which approves a Treaty to Avoid Double Taxation with the United Kingdom. The treaty will enter into force on the date in which the countries inform each other that they have complied with the local legal requirements.

The treaty will apply to taxes withheld, amounts paid or credited, as of the first day of the second month following its entry into force. For the remaining taxes, the treaty will apply to tax periods beginning January 1 of the year following the entry into force.

For the Mutual Agreement Procedure and the Exchange of Information, the treaty will be effective from the date on which the treaty enters into force. For more on the Exchange of Information, see Tax Alert 2016-1922.
