Canada updates prevailing wages requiring employers to review wages currently being paid to some temporary foreign workers

The Canadian government updated the prevailing wages for many occupations on November 1. Employers should review the wages paid to current foreign workers on Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) based work permits as the wage being paid to the foreign workers may need to be increased to meet the new prevailing wage. Similarly, paying the new prevailing median wage is a requirement for intra-company transferee — specialized knowledge applicants in process or about to be filed, as well as a consideration for some Provincial Nominee Program categories.
