Uruguay's Ministry of Economy and Finance proposes bill to amend Financial Inclusion Law

If enacted, the bill would change certain due dates and would allow bills of exchange to be used as a means of payment for paying taxes higher than 10,000 indexed units.

Uruguay's Ministry of Economy and Finance proposed a bill on October 28, 2016, that would amend Law No. 19,210, the Financial Inclusion Law.

Particularly, the bill would modify the rules applicable to electronic money issuers. It also would change the deadline for certain payments to be made through electronic means from December 31, 2016 to July 1, 2017.

In terms of taxes, the bill would allow bills of exchange issued by financial institutions to be used as a means of payment for paying taxes higher than 10,000 indexed units (USD 1,250) in certain cases, which would be determined through future regulations.
