Georgia reminds employers of January 31 Form W-2 deadline

The Georgia Department of Revenue issued an alert by email to remind employers that the Department will match the new January 31 federal due date for Forms W-2 and 1099-MISC with nonemployee compensation.

As a result, the due date for calendar year 2016 Forms W-2/1099-MISC with box 7 income is January 31, 2017. The Department will not give an extension to this deadline unless the IRS has granted an extension.

Georgia's deadline for all other Forms 1099 will be February 28, 2017. Failure to file timely may result in penalties and delay in the processing of their employees' tax returns.

Employers filing 250 or more Forms W-2 or those required to electronically file and pay their annual, quarterly or monthly Georgia withholding returns must file the Form G-1003 annual reconciliation and related Forms W-2 electronically over the Department's Georgia Tax Center (GTC).

On GTC there is now a separate return and CSV file upload for each due date. The new return and CSV file upload types are:

"G-1003 Jan" return

— W-2s and the 1099-MISC with non-employee compensation

"G-1003 Feb" return

— All other 1099s, W-2Gs, and G2-FLs

CSV G-1003 CSV File Upload — Jan

CSV G-1003 CSV File Upload — Feb
