Arizona changes W-2 filing deadline to January 31

Recently enacted SB 1290 accelerates the deadline for filing Forms W-2 with the Arizona Department of Revenue from the current February 28 to January 31, matching the federal deadline. As the deadline for filing Forms W-2 for calendar year 2016 has passed, the accelerated deadline is effective for calendar year 2017, with Forms W-2 due January 31, 2018. (SB 1290, signed by the governor on March 2, 2017.)

The legislation also changes the deadline for providing Forms W-2 to employees from thirty days following the end of the year to 31 days following the end of the year (January 31), making a technical change to match the Department's policy to require Forms W-2 to be provided by January 31 each year.

Finally, the legislation updates the state's conformity with the federal Internal Revenue Code to January 1, 2017.
