Nebraska changes W-2 filing deadline to January 31

Recently enacted LB 217 changes the deadline for filing Forms W-2 with the Nebraska Department of Revenue from the current February 1 to January 31, matching the federal deadline.

The legislation is effective three months after enactment, making the accelerated deadline effective for calendar year 2017, with Forms W-2 due January 31, 2018.

The law is also amended to reflect that a notice of tax due will be sent to individual taxpayers if the income or taxes reported on the state income tax return differs from the income and taxes reported on Form W-2 or Form 1099.
