Canada and 67 other jurisdictions sign Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent BEPS

On June 7, 68 jurisdictions signed the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent BEPS (the MLI) during a signing ceremony hosted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. Canada submitted a provisional list of its reservations and notifications (Canada's MLI Position), which include a list of tax treaties designated as Covered Tax Agreements (CTAs), i.e., Canadian treaties to be amended through the MLI. The list includes treaties with 75 jurisdictions; however, only 50 of these are current signatories to the MLI, while another five have expressed their intent to sign the MLI in the near future. Canada's MLI Position also includes reservations that it will apply in respect of specific provisions of the MLI.
