Puerto Rico further extends due dates for certain returns and tax payments because of Hurricane Maria

Puerto Rico's Treasury Department (PRTD) has further extended (Information Bulletin (IB) 17-18) the due dates for filing certain returns and making tax payments because of Hurricane Maria.

The PRTD extended the due date for the August 2017 Monthly Sales and Use Tax Return and tax payment from September 20, 2017 to September 27, 2017. All tax payments or deposits due on September 22, 2017, are now due September 27, 2017.

For more information on the extended due dates, see Tax Alerts 2017-1468 and 2017-1499.

Implications

IB 17-18 indicates that those due dates not specifically mentioned will remain as provided in the previously issued administrative communications. For example, there were certain obligations due on September 18 (i.e., 7% income tax withholding on services, and the use tax on imports monthly return). Those returns and payments are still due on that date. Similarly, the sales and use tax bimonthly payment corresponding to the month of September is still due October 2, 2017.
