22 December 2017 President Trump signs tax bill On December 22, 2017, President Trump signed the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" (H.R. 1) and the continuing resolution to fund the government prior to leaving Washington for the holidays. The continuing resolution approved by Congress on December 21, 2017 to fund the government until January 19, 2018 waives "pay as you go" rules that otherwise would have triggered cuts to entitlement programs because of enactment of the tax bill. Without the waiver, the signing may have been delayed until the New Year.
