Rep. LaHood recommended to serve on Ways and Means

Rep. Womack recommended as Budget Chairman

The House Steering Committee has recommended Rep. Darin LaHood (R-IL) to serve on the Ways and Means Committee, Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) announced tonight (January 9, 2018).

Rep. LaHood is set to replace Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), who is leaving Congress, on the Committee.

"I'm excited to welcome Congressman LaHood to our Committee. Since coming to Congress, Darin has been a champion for pro-growth policies that create more jobs and increase paychecks for hardworking families in Illinois and across the country," Chairman Brady said. "As a former federal and state prosecutor, Darin will bring an important new perspective to our Committee's work. As workers, families, and job creators continue to see and feel the benefits of their new tax code, I look forward to having Darin on our team to continue taking action on policies that will improve lives."

Additionally, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) announced tonight that the Steering Committee has recommended that Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) be named chairman of the House Budget Committee, to succeed Rep. Diane Black (R-TN).

"I believe Steve Womack is the right man for the job of chairman of the Budget Committee. Steve's experience in the House, commitment to fiscal conservatism, and relentless pursuit to safeguard taxpayer dollars make him extremely qualified to lead this important committee. I am looking forward to Steve's service, and I know he will do an excellent job," Speaker Ryan said. "I also want to thank Diane Black for her incredible years of service. Without her leadership in getting the budget passed last year, tax reform would not have been possible."

The House Steering Committee is responsible for recommending Members to serve on standing Committees, and the recommendations are subject to approval by the House Republican Conference.
