12 October 2018 EU mandatory disclosure regime is alarmingly broad (BNA) James Tobin, a partner with EY's International Tax Services group, recently authored an article published in BNA's Tax Management International Journal, discussing the Mandatory Disclosure Regime (MDR) Directive. According to the article, the author states that the MDR Directive is way too broad, is likely to produce loads of useless and unnecessary information, will result in an unreasonable bureaucratic burden with respect to doing business in the European Union, and is largely a poor solution to a yesterday problem. The author further notes that because countries are required to implement the Directive, the countries could limit some of the “damage” in the process of country implementation. This, however, means that from country to country, there will likely be inconsistent rules which may be even more burdensome to deal with.
