31 October 2018 President, Chairman Brady issue joint statement on middle-class tax cuts President Trump and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) on October 31, 2018, issued a joint statement announcing they are "committed to delivering an additional 10% tax cut to middle-class workers across the country" and "intend to take swift action on this legislation at the start of the 116th Congress." President Trump began talking on October 20 about the prospect of a forthcoming resolution regarding a 10% middle-class tax cut, then said on October 23 that "we'll start the work" sometime after the midterm elections. On the Fox News Channel on October 28, Chairman Brady said of the President, "He's asked us and we have worked with him on developing another 10% middle-class tax [cut] for workers and families. And so we will be ready to move with that as well." Reiterating earlier comments, Chairman Brady said "this is something that, as Republicans retain the House and the Senate, we will advance in the new Congress." The joint statement, which is attached, said the "economy is booming, once again, thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" (TCJA) and noted that the House recently passed Tax Reform 2.0 to make permanent TCJA tax cuts that expire at the end of 2025 for individuals and small businesses. The statement continued, "We are not done yet. We know that when hardworking Americans — not Washington — are in charge of spending their own money, our economy grows and families are better off."
