20 December 2018 House passes CR with $5 Billion in border wall funding, 217-185 By a largely party-line vote of 217-185, the House, on Thursday, December 20, 2018, passed a continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open that provides $5.71 billion in funding for a border wall, as requested by President Trump. The measure passed as a House amendment to the Senate-passed CR (HR 695), which funds the government on a stopgap basis through February 8, 2019. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has set aside time on Friday for votes on the measure, which may not have enough support to survive a cloture vote ending debate on the bill, raising the chances for a government shutdown. Cloture requires a 60-vote supermajority in the Senate. The measure also provides about $7.8 billion in emergency disaster aid for hurricane and wildfire victims, and preserves Senate-passed provisions that would extend certain expiring authorities and make changes to Medicaid programs and policies.
