15 January 2019

New Republican Ways & Means members named

Three new Republican members were named to the House Ways and Means Committee on January 15, 2019:

  • Drew Ferguson (R-GA)
  • Jodey Arrington (R-TX)
  • Ron Estes (R-KS)

Despite losing the majority, Republicans were required to fill some seats on the Committee because 10 members did not return to Congress this year.

With the addition of 11 new Democratic members and 3 new Republicans, the Committee ratio will be 25 Democrats and 17 Republicans.

House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the House Steering Committee recommended the members to serve on the Committee: "These three distinguished Members are fantastic choices to serve on our Committee. Our Republican pro-growth agenda has made a real and positive impact for American families and businesses, and each of these Members will be invaluable additions in helping build on that success. I look forward to our work together as we aim to improve retirement security for our workers, continue to cut taxes for middle-class families, and lower health care costs for patients and providers."
