Senate HELP Committee holds hearing on draft bipartisan bill to lower health care costs

On June 18, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee held a hearing on the Lower Health Care Costs Act, a bipartisan draft bill assembled by Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) that aims to end surprise medical bills, reduce prescription drug prices, improve health-care transparency and ease the exchange of patients' health information. Toward the end of the hearing, Chairman Alexander said he plans to formally introduce a revised bill early next week and mark it up in committee on Wednesday, June 26. He told reporters later he hopes to bring the bill to the Senate floor in July.
