Madison, West Virginia city service fee to increase January 1, 2020

Effective January 1, 2020, the Madison, West Virginia city service fee will increase from $1.25 to $3.00 per calendar week. (Madison city ordinance.)

The Madison city service fee is withheld from the wages of employees who are employed at or physically report to one or more locations within the city and is on the payroll of an employer, on either a full-time or part-time basis.

Employers subject to the withholding requirement includes any person, partnership, limited partnership, limited liability company, association (unincorporated or otherwise), corporation, institution, trust, governmental body or unit or agency, or any other entity (whether its principal activity is for-profit or not-for-profit) situated, doing business, or conducting its principal activity in the city and who employs an employee.

Six other West Virginia cities also require that the city service fee be withheld from wages:

  • Charleston
  • Huntington
  • Fairmont
  • Morgantown
  • Parkersburg
  • Weirton
