11 September 2019 Peru and Japan agree in principle to Double Tax Treaty Taxpayers that might benefit from the treaty’s provisions should monitor its progress through the process. On September 6, 2019, Japan’s Ministry of Finance published, on its official website, a press release, stating that the Government of Japan and the Government of Peru have agreed in principle to a Double Tax Treaty. The Double Tax Treaty includes provisions that would clarify the scope of taxation in both countries, eliminate international double taxation, and prevent tax evasion and avoidance. The Double Tax Treaty will be signed after the internal procedures have been completed by both Governments. The treaty will enter into force on the date of the last notification made between the countries.
