27 September 2019 House Education and Labor hearing on lowering drug prices n September 26, the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions held a hearing entitled “Making Health Care More Affordable: Lowering Drug Prices and Increasing Transparency.” The hearing focused on recently proposed legislation spearheaded by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the "Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019 (H.R. 3)," which would empower Health and Human Services to negotiate directly with drug manufacturers for the prices of certain drugs. Similar to an Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing the day prior, Republicans expressed frustration with the process by which the Pelosi bill was drafted, with Ranking Member Tim Walberg (R-MI) calling H.R. 3 the latest addition to a “string of aggressive socialist policies introduced by Congressional Democrats” and calling for a return to a “collaborative and bipartisan effort.”
