CMS holds 2020 Healthcare Innovation Industry Day

On January 29, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted their 2020 CMS Healthcare Innovation Industry Day, focusing on recent efforts by the Trump administration to expand the flexibility and usability of Health Reimburse Arrangements (HRAs) and increase price transparency and interoperability across the healthcare system. The event began with opening remarks from CMS Administrator Seema Verma ,who said that President Trump's health care agenda focuses on policies that "boost competition, put patients first, lower healthcare costs, and increase quality." HRAs, she said, "hold the potential to revolutionize the health insurance market" by doubling the size of the individual market and creating unprecedented stability in years to come. Administrator Verma also touted the new transparency and interoperability rules, saying that the administration "will not waiver in ensuring that patients enjoy full ownership of their data," calling out bad actors "that continue to guard the status quo because it's in the interest of their short-term profits."
