Trump administration unveils initiative allowing states to block grant Medicaid funding for non-traditional Medicaid populations

On January 30, the Trump administration released a highly anticipated plan to let states convert a portion of their Medicaid funding into block grants, their boldest step yet to curb Medicaid spending and shrink the safety net program that covers one in five low-income Americans. The plan represents a radical departure from Medicaid's current financing structure, in which the federal government provides open-ended matching funds to states.
