House passes $8.3 billion emergency coronavirus package, Senate passage and Trump signature expected by end of week

On March 4, the House of Representatives passed the "Coronavirus Preparedness and Reponses Supplemental Appropriations Act" (H.R. 6074) by a vote of 415-2, providing $8.3 billion in emergency funds to government agencies and states to respond to the coronavirus. The package includes $6.5 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services, $1.25 billion for the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development, and $20 million for the Small Business Administration. The administration had initially requested $1.25 billion to fight the disease, along with the reprogramming of another $1.25 billion. The Senate is expected to take up the bill this week and send it to President Trump for his signature shortly thereafter.
