26 March 2020 Iowa delays due date of first-quarter SUI tax payments for small employers Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the due date for submitting state unemployment insurance (SUI) tax payments for the 2020 first quarter (normally April 30, 2020) will be delayed until the end of 2020 second quarter, and are now due July 31, 2020. The tax payment extension applies only to employers with 50 or fewer employees. Employers must notify the Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) of their intent to delay payment by Friday, April 24th at 4:30 pm. In addition, to qualify for the SUI tax payment extension, the employer must be current on all quarterly tax payments before the 1st quarter of 2020 regardless of whether or not they are seeking an extension of the 2020 first quarter tax payment. All employers must file the Quarterly Employers Contribution and Payroll Report electronically by 4:30 on April 24th to avoid late report filing penalty. "Iowa's small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and the engine behind our economy. Now more than ever we need to make sure they have the ability to manage their cash flow," said Gov. Reynolds. "It's critically important that we continue to take steps in support of our small business community during these challenging times." To take advantage of the tax payment extension, qualified employers are instructed to contact the Iowa Unemployment Insurance Tax division either by phone (+1 888 848 7442) or by email (Q1tax@iwd.iowa.gov). The IWD recommends sending an email versus making a phone call, due to the high call volume during this time.
