Wisconsin provides instructions for submitting new Federal Form 1099-NEC

Beginning with tax year 2020, due in 2021, the Department will accept new federal Form 1099-NEC, Nonemployee Compensation, and the redesigned federal Form 1099-MISC, Miscellaneous Income. Beginning with tax year 2020, taxpayers will use Form 1099-NEC to report nonemployee compensation to the IRS. For more information, see the Form 1099-NEC and Form 1099-MISC instructions.

Form 1099-NEC is an information return and subject to the electronic filing mandate under sec.71.80(20), Wis. Stats, that requires taxpayers filing 10 or more Forms W-2 or 10 or more of any one type of information return with the Department to file the statements or the returns electronically. Taxpayers who are required to file electronically may not mail Form 1099-NEC to the Department.

Note, however, that the Wisconsin electronic filing options for Form 1099-NEC will not be available until January of 2021.

For more information on Wisconsin withholding tax, see the Department's website.
