Administration doctors stress importance of testing, contact tracing

Coronavirus testing will be paramount as the school year opens in the fall because treatments or a vaccine will likely not be available, and there could be serious consequences for areas that re-open without following guidelines or without having the capability to respond to infection spikes, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH, told the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee during a high-profile hearing on virus-related safety issues. Witnesses and members emphasized the importance of testing and contact tracing, and some senators said other nations that acted more quickly on testing and other factors have better contained the virus than the United States.
