House Financial Services Committee questions Federal Reserve Chairman Powell on economy, other issues

Powell offers support for additional state & local aid, unemployment benefits, citing 'critical phase'; says jobs in travel, leisure, hospitality sectors may take longer to return

The House Financial Services Committee on June 17 held a hearing to receive the semiannual monetary policy report from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who was the only witness. Powell appeared at the Senate Banking Committee on June 16 to present the same report. As on the Senate side, the House hearing was an all-remote affair, with Powell and all members participating via video connections.
