Revisions to the United Nations Practical Manual on Transfer Pricing

In preparation for the planned 2021 release of the third edition of United Nations (UN) Practical Manual on Transfer Pricing (the UN Manual), the UN released proposed modifications to the UN Manual earlier this year. The updates include a new chapter on financial transactions, as well as numerous revisions and additions to the existing guidance. In general, the UN Manual is a response to the need, often expressed by developing countries, for clearer guidance on the policy and administrative aspects of applying transfer pricing.

Join us for our latest installment of BorderCrossings on which we are honored to be joined by Stig Sollund, the Chair of the Transfer Pricing Subcommittee of the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. Stig has led the UN's efforts on transfer pricing for both the first and second editions of the UN Manual and continues in that role as Co-Chair of the group producing the upcoming third edition. Stig will help unpack the role the UN Manual plays and the significance of the recent revisions.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • A discussion with Stig Sollund
    • Raison d'etre of the UN Manual
    • The relationship between the UN Manual and the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines
    • Historical successes and future challenges
  • The new UN Manual chapter on financial transactions
  • Key revisions and additions to the UN Manual
