February 19, 2021 Taxpayers may disregard CP59 notices if they already sent return The IRS announced that taxpayers that were mistakenly told they had not filed their 2019 tax returns do not need to take any action. The IRS said it has issued approximately 260,000 notices informing taxpayers that they failed to file their 2019 tax returns (CP59 notices). Some of these notices should not have been sent because the IRS has not completed processing all the 2019 returns due to COVID-19 shutdowns. The IRS said taxpayers that have filed their 2019 returns can disregard the notice and do not need to call the IRS or respond to the notice as the IRS is continuing to process the returns. ———————————————
