Ireland’s Department of Finance to host virtual seminar on International Tax

In a press release published on 13 April 2021, Ireland’s Department of Finance announced that it will be hosting a virtual seminar on International Tax at 2 p.m. Irish time (9 a.m. EDT, 6 a.m. PDT) on 21 April 2021.

The virtual seminar will focus on the various ongoing international tax discussions that are taking place at both the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) level and in the United States under the new President Joe Biden’s Administration, with specific attention to be given to the general progress of those discussions in addition to potential areas of relevance for Irish stakeholders in the context of reaching an agreement and subsequently implementing any newly agreed international tax framework.

In noting that “2021 will be a critical year for international tax” as agreement is sought in addressing the tax challenges of digitalization, the press release goes on to state that Ireland is “committed to achieving a sustainable, robust and growth friendly agreement.” It also states that such an agreement “must be one that meets the needs of all countries, large and small, developed and developing,” and that it is “vital that certainty is provided to countries and businesses alike in achieving a balanced and equitable compromise.”

The virtual seminar will be opened by Ireland’s Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe TD, who is also President of the Eurogroup.

Pascal Saint-Amans (Director, Centre for Tax Policy and Administration – OECD), Fabrizia Lapecorella (Director General of Finance Ministry of Economy and Finance, Italy - G20 Presidency), Benjamin Angel (Director, TAXUD.D, EU Commission) and Barbara Angus (EY’s Global Tax Policy Leader) will be among the panelists speaking at the event.
