Monday, July 26 | Tax risk and controversy for companies operating in Asia-Pacific (11 pm ET)

Join EY panelists as they review key findings of the 2021 EY Tax risk and controversy survey and discuss why companies operating in Asia-Pacific should build their Tax Controversy Department of the Future without delay.

The way in which taxes are enforced in the region is unique, and nothing can be taken for granted. According to the EY survey, many companies operating here have not fully adjusted to ongoing, dramatic changes in tax authority scrutiny of their affairs.

Seventy-three percent of respondents working in the region, for example, say that tax controversy has become more important to their company recently, while 78% say that recent tax reforms among Asian jurisdictions have increased the overall levels of tax risk experienced by their company. Simultaneously, only 22% say they have complete visibility of all tax audits, disputes and litigation, while being almost 30% less likely to actively sustain contemporaneous audit defense files than companies outside the region.

During this session, panelists will discuss:

  • Tax risk and enforcement trends in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Immediate tax risks arising from the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Leading practices in tax risk assessment, tax risk management and tax audit management that tax leaders in the region are adopting
  • How technology can be utilized during each part of the tax controversy lifecycle
