November 19, 2021 An overview of health care provisions in House-passed Build Back Better Act The House November 19, by a 220-213 vote, approved the Build Back Better Act (H.R. 5376) reconciliation bill, a more than $1.6 trillion package of social spending measures on health, climate, low-income tax credits and many other issues paid for with tax increases on corporations and individuals. The timing for Senate consideration of the bill is unclear despite Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) indicating his intent to pass the bill by Christmas. The bill is likely to undergo further changes as certain Senators have expressed opposition to various provisions and Democrats cannot afford any defections from their 50-member caucus. If the Senate makes tweaks, the proposal will have to go back to the House for a second vote. Additional information is available in the attached Tax Alert. ———————————————
