15 September 2022 Visa application processing resumes at South African Missions and deadline extension for ZEP holders Effective September 1, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Head Office is no longer processing Long-Term Temporary Residence Visa applications filed at South African Missions, and the Missions have resumed processing these applications. In addition, the DHA has extended the deadline for Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders to change to another immigration status until June 30. The DHA introduced the ZEP in 2017 for eligible Zimbabwean nationals who were living in South Africa at the time on a Zimbabwean Dispensation Permit. ZEPs, which were initially valid until December 31, 2021, enable their holders to work, study and conduct business in the country. However, ZEP holders are not eligible to apply for permanent residence. A Tax Alert prepared by EY's People Advisory Services group, and attached below, provides additional details.
