October 3, 2022 2022-1483 USCIS extends Green Card validity extension to 24 months for Green Card renewals Effective September 26, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will automatically extend the validity of Permanent Resident Cards (commonly known as Green Cards) to 24 months for applicants who file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, to renew an expiring or expired Green Card. This extension provides substantial benefit to Lawful Permanent Residents considering increased processing times for I-90 applications, which currently exceed 12 months for most cases. Lawful Permanent Residents applying to renew their Green Cards will now be able to utilize the receipt notice for Form I-90 as proof of permanent resident status for up to 24 months, enabling them to demonstrate their continued eligibility to reside and work in the United States, as well as travel internationally, as USCIS processes their case.
