European Union delays the launch of Entry and Exit System (EES) until late 2023

The launch of the EU’s Entry and Exit System (EES) was recently postponed until late 2023. The new technology platform, designed to more effectively regulate non-EU nationals’ entry into and exit from the Schengen Area, was initially expected to go into effect in late 2022 and then delayed until May 2023. Once the EES goes into effect, impacted travelers will be required to scan their passports at self-service kiosks each time they cross an external EU border. The EES will automatically record these travelers’ names, biometric data, travel documents, dates and places of entry into and exit from the Schengen Area, as well as instances when they are denied entry to the Area.
