IRS proposes regulations on supervisory approval requirements for tax penalties

The IRS has issued proposed regulations (REG-121709-19) clarifying rules for supervisory approval of penalty assessments. The regulations are aimed at addressing uncertainty that has arisen recently in numerous judicial decisions. The IRS invites public comments through July 10, 2023.
