Slovenia’s Administrative unit staff strike impacts immigration services

The staff of Slovenia’s administrative units, including the immigration department, went on an indefinite strike effective 15 May 2024. The strike, driven by a shortage of personnel and demand for higher salaries, is expected to significantly impact the delivery of immigration-related services (e.g., work and residence permit applications) that involve processing by the administrative unit, both within Slovenia and at Slovenian embassies and consulates abroad. The processing of applications filed with the immigration authorities on or before 15 May 2024 may also be significantly delayed. The authorities have confirmed that they will continue to process urgent applications based on their discretion and on a case-by-case basis.
