Venezuela announces immigration processing delays and travel disruptions amid diplomatic tensions

On 29 July 2024, the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs "ordered" diplomatic representatives from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru and Uruguay to leave Venezuela and recalled Venezuelan diplomatic personnel posted in these countries. Relations between Venezuela and the aforementioned countries were impacted after leaders of these countries refused to recognize Venezuela's presidential election results issued by the National Electoral Council. The recent announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has led to disruptions in immigration procedures at the Venezuelan consulates located in these countries and the consulates of these countries located in Venezuela. Travel between Venezuela and these countries has also been impacted due to the suspension of several flights.
