  • USTR issues Notice of Action after investigating China's purported targeting of maritime, logistics, shipbuilding sectors — comments due 19 May
After its year-long Section 301 Investigation regarding China's alleged targeting of the maritime, logistics and shipbuilding sectors, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) proposed, on 17 April 2025, fees on maritime transport services for Chinese operators, starting at US$50 per net ton. The fees would go into effect on 14 October 2025 and increase incrementally over the next three years. Additional duties are proposed on certain ship-to-shore cranes and cargo-handling equipment from China, with new origin rules that could affect a wide range of products. Public comments on the proposed actions are due by 19 May 2025, with requests to appear at the public hearing required by 8 May 2025.
  • Canada | Latest relief measures for Canadian businesses impacted by US tariffs
On 15 April 2025, Canada’s Minister of Finance announced a series of relief measures for Canadian businesses affected by the recent tariffs imposed by the United States (US). Certain importers of motor vehicles from the US have been granted remission of the 25% surtax imposed by the Government of Canada in response to US tariffs on automobiles and automobile parts. Additionally, a temporary six-month relief period from tariffs on US-origin products has been granted for certain sectors, applicable to goods imported before 16 October 2025.
  • Peru | Likely impact from US tariffs
The 10% baseline tariff, imposed by US President Trump's Executive Order 14257, will directly affect various agricultural and textile products that originate from Peru and are imported into the United States. Companies that import these products into the United States, as well as companies that export to the US market, should identify the tariffs’ potential impacts.
