12 December 2025 US Customs and Border Protection announces new data collection requirements for ESTA travelers On 10 December 2025, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) published a notice of information collection relating to the Arrival and Departure Record (Form I-94) and the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). CBP is proposing to collect more information from foreign nationals to modernize and secure the process for travelers entering and exiting the United States, with a particular focus on improving identity verification, automating data collection, and enhancing national security. The proposed changes include the voluntary collection of biometric data from foreign nationals when they depart the United States as well as the mandatory collection of social media and other information from ESTA applicants, and a transition to mobile-only application platforms.
